UN Rejects Russia’s Request To Investigate ‘Dirty Bomb’ Claim

The United Nations (UN) rejected the request to investigate the allegations that the USA and Ukraine were preparing to use a “dirty bomb”. In the UN Security Council, Russia’s call for an investigation into the allegations of “military biological activities” in Ukraine was rejected by a majority of votes. It was stated that the USA, Britain and France voted against in the Council, the remaining 10 members abstained and only Russia and China voted in favor.

Russia’s “Dirty Bomb” Claim

Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu claimed that Ukraine is preparing to use a “dirty bomb”, and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov also argued that there are facilities in this country with the technology to produce a radioactive bomb. Shoigu also voiced his dirty bomb allegations in meetings with his Turkish, US, French and British counterparts. While Western countries, especially Ukraine, rejected Russia’s claims unequivocally, the Kyiv administration called for the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to inspect the facilities in its country.
