We are seeking a Scientific Programmer Analyst candidate to serve as a member of a KBR team working on the Hydrosphere, Biosphere and Geophysics (HBG) Support Services program at NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) in Greenbelt, MD. The candidate will be responsible for programming and analyzing scientific data associated with technical activities in support of PolarMERRA (A Polar-Focused Global Reanalysis Project for Scientific and Stakeholder Needs).
Responsibilities:
- Working with Science Product Owners and Group Managers to plan and support assignments and milestones
- Evolutionary adaptation of code to meet new requirements
- Integration and Acceptance Testing of programs
- Developing software documentation artifacts per NASA requirements
- Responsible for programming and analyzing scientific data
- Programming and analysis of large datasets to build tools
Requirements:
- Minimum 3-5 years of programming experience in support of distributed scientific software applications
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Ability to work both independently and in a group setting
- Ability to critically assess personal work and project needs
- Familiarity with large datasets and file types (NetCDF, bin, HDF, etc.)
- Commitment to open science and collaboration (successfully use github.com, Git, Jupyter Notebooks, JuptyerHub)
- Excellent coding skills (Python, Fortran, Matlab, etc.)
- Familiarity with super- and cloud- computing
- Must have extensive experience specifically with: Large Datasets; Python, Jupyter Notebooks, Git, and Cloud Computing.

- Experience working with earth or environmental science data formats
- Knowledge and Earth Science background experience
- Critical thinking
- Good judgment and relationship management
- Ability to track detailed assignments and ensure timely delivery
- Ability to work independently, quickly, efficiently and accurately in a dynamic and fluid environment
Education:
- Degree – preferably MS or PhD in Earth Sciences, Computer Science, or a related field
