Belgium Cannot Find A Furnace To Burn The Seized Record Cocaine

Drug incineration facilities became inadequate, as record quantities of cocaine were seized during operations in the Belgian port of Antwerp (Antwerp). The prosecutor’s office warns that criminal organizations can raid to retrieve tens of tons of cocaine waiting in customs warehouses to be burned.

According to the Belgian newspaper De Standaard, around 90 tons of cocaine were seized in the port of Antwerp in 2021. Belgian authorities say that as part of the ongoing operations, the amount of cocaine seized this year will exceed 100 tons, breaking a new record. Drugs with a market value of more than five billion euros are stored in customs warehouses in the port to be incinerated. However, according to the authorities, this poses a serious security problem.
